Do You Need A Separate Social Media Page For Promos?

Do you need a seaparate social media page for promos captioned over a colorful illustration of 2 cartoon people on social media.

As social media outlets such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, SnapChat, and a few others grow larger than life, you may notice your peers creating a second social media profile to promote themselves for promos; or you may see them promoting the event they were at. You see them going "live" on when they’re at their events, talking about the product or even trying to get you to come see them if you're in the area. The captions to their event pictures are getting more sophisticated and markety. Yes, markety, just roll with it. You start scrolling on IG and start seeing their event photos on your timeline as if they are trying to get you in on the action at their event. Or you get a follow or friend request from a peer you’re already friends with, but this new request is a profile filled with their promo events and promo memes 🤔.

So you question yourself. Should I do the same thing? Is it worth creating a separate social media for promo events? Many concerns may cross your mind. Especially if having social media is a personal decision. Let's address few of them.

But I'm Not An Influencer / I Don't Really Get Likes Like That / I Don't Have A Big Following Though

Depending on the agency, your "likes" and follows doesn't matter. The event is looking for promo workers, not influencers. The promo event isn't looking for you to influence your following. The promo event needs promo workers during their activation. Brand assignments that are looking for influencers will say so and they will tell you what size audience they are looking for the influencer to have, etc.

So why do it? It can be a different way to present your photos and videos of you as a promo worker. When an agency sees your content, it's a clever way for you to display your ability and knowledge!

I Don't Know How To Create Content With Graphics, Etc.

You don't have to be fancy with your content. Your content could be just photos. Think of your social media as a portfolio that lays out your photos where you and the brand are the main characters. Some promo workers use their social media as an opportunity to showcase their work or as a photo album of their promo adventures. You don't need a content calendar or a marketing plan if your objective for your social media is just to display your work. You may find it useful to ask other promo workers to follow you and you follow back to get inspiration on what you could do on your social media (or not, no pressure).

Must I Be Verified, Too?

Great question! And here's a blog that explains what it is and things to consider, plus our thoughts on the matter.

I Don't Think I Would Have Enough Content

I, personally, feel that those who work promo events full time see a bigger fulfillment in having a social media platform for the events they book. But it's up to your resources and what you value doing with your time.

Do I Need To Really Monitor My Social Media Platforms
A green post it note that says "monitoring" with a maginifying glass on top of a wood table.

You want to make sure you keep an eye on your platform(s), because you want to be able to act if hacked or negative comments are made on your posts. Things like this can sink your profile. The last thing you would want is for an agency or a client to see negativity on your platform. But there are features on many of the platforms that you may find useful. For instance, IG allows you to turn off the comments so that's one least thing to worry about.

OK, I'll Do It, But I'm Having My Page Be Private

That's your choice, but what's the point? If the purpose is for agencies to be able to see your content, how would they see it if your page is private? Some would say befriend the agency on social media. But what if the staffer/recruiter isn't the agency's social media manager (which m don't have the login to the agency's social media to then see your content). Let's take it a step further, what if the client wants to see your social media, how would they see it if your page is private. How would you befriend the client on social media if you don't know who the client is??

But again, it's your page and you do what's best for you according to your comfort level. Having public social media pages comes with its risks. It's up to you to access what you want to do.

IN CONCLUSION:

It's up to you. It doesn't hurt to try and if you don't like it for whatever reason, you can cancel/delete the profile.
