3 Major Reasons Newbies Are Winning Over Vets In The Promo World

Firstly, it's important to note that there are pros and cons to hiring experienced professionals (vets) and newcomers (newbies). Experienced professionals bring a wealth of knowledge and the stamina required to meet industry demands, ensuring a successful activation. Hiring vets can produce a smoother run of show and a more unified campaign for the client. However, not all vets are created equal. There are some bad apples that are glitching up the matrix. This is where newbies are sliding in and filling the gap!

NEWBIES Are Easier To Work With
I can imagine the side eye I'm getting from vets right now, LOL. However, there's a notable difference in how newbies and veterans approach requests. When you ask for something from a newbie, they do it with energy without so much back and forth. If a Staffer asks for a revised bio, newbies are liable to just provide it, whereas vets feel like they've been getting booked with the bio they have and justify questioning why or even if a revised bio is needed. This kind of logic is understandable, but it is neither here nor there if the Client or the Agency is asking for certain things. It also comes off as entitled and can lead to unnecessary delays and complications, or a lack of bookings when the requests are ignored. By and by, the requests from Clients change and evolve with time or even from event to event, and too often, Vets struggle with that.

Newbies Organically Have A Can-Do Attitude
Not saying that there aren't many vets who are not bringing their A-game. Indeed, the industry is full of amazing vets who work hard and are professional. However, too many vets are trying to do the least amount of work for the maximum amount of pay. This approach can sometimes result in a lack of enthusiasm or a diminished willingness to engage fully with the demands of the job. Newbies, on the other hand, often exhibit a refreshing can-do attitude. They are typically eager to prove themselves and willing to go the extra mile to ensure that tasks are completed successfully. It’s one thing to establish boundaries to prevent being taken advantage of in a competitive industry, but it's another thing to kick up dust in an industry that has many moving parts.

NEWBIES HAVE MORE FLEXIBLE AVAILABILITY
As a newcomer in the industry, a newbie typically isn’t tied down by commitments to multiple agencies, which gives them a significant advantage in terms of availability. They are less likely to have dates on hold with other agencies or to be snatched up by competing organizations, allowing them to be more responsive and adaptable to changing schedules and requests. This flexibility can be a tremendous asset in a fast-paced environment where last-minute changes are common. Nonetheless, I’m sure vets understand that the nature of the game often favors those who can pivot quickly and accommodate varying demands, and sometimes, as a vet, you’ve established strong boundaries that newbies don’t mind being without at the moment. NOTE: There’s nothing wrong with your boundaries; I’m sure we all have good reasons for them. However, this is the flip side of that.
